Walt Disney presents its new fairytale: the merge with Pixar! Indeed, in January, the legendary company of animated features has announced the acquisition of Pixar and its talented creative teams. Robert A. Iger, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Walt Disney Company commented: “The addition of Pixar significantly enhances Disney animation, which is a critical creative engine for driving growth across our businesses”. Enhancing Disney animation: this is exactly what it is about. They couldn’t have dreamed any better solution for they own gain.

Dinosaur, Atlantis: the Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, Valiant, The Wild… Is there anybody in the audience who remembers one of these movies? No? Well, it’s quite surprising as they all have been made by the king of family entertainment: Disney. And this is pretty much the only movies they gave us those last years. Meanwhile, Pixar was blowing some minds, letting us entering the amazing secret world of the toys living in our children rooms, discovering the playground of the bugs occupying our gardens; and making us fall in love with an adorable clownfish. Toy Story, A Bug’s Life and Finding Nemo are true master pieces freshly coming from the incredibly creative Pixar teams. We will also retain Monster Inc. or The Incredibles. Even though those features have been distributed by the giant Disney, everybody recognizes there the genius Pixar, which have been rewarded many times for its blockbusters.
The king Disney, probably tired of walking in the shadows, decided to make of its story a fairytale, getting married with the popular princess Pixar, which was pretty easy to seduce thanks to the Disney’s great glory and historical heritage. But is that mutual love? “The acquisition brings to Disney the talented creative teams behind the tremendously popular original Pixar blockbusters, who will now be involved in the nurturing and future development of these properties, including potential feature animation sequels. (…) Disney will also have increased ability to fully capitalize on Pixar-created characters and franchises on high-growth digital platforms such as video games, broadband and wireless, as well as traditional media outlets, including theme parks, consumer products and live stage plays”, can we read on the press release serving as the wedding invitation. So Pixar will be designed to give birth to astonishing movies and taking care of the several theme parks surrounding her husband’s empire? Disney couldn’t have wished a better housewife to pursue the tradition! “Now, everyone can focus on what is most important, creating innovative stories, characters and films that delight millions of people around the world”, said Steve Jobs, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pixar. But he seems to have forgotten that the business is business, not a fairytale… Please, don’t make the princess Pixar become a desperate housewife.
